Why regulations are important<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Health insurance for foreign students is not just a formality for university recruitment. In practice, it determines access to medical treatment, the possibility of obtaining a visa and legal stay in Poland. Foreign students often face different requirements: different rules apply to EU citizens, others to those coming from third countries.<\/p>\n

The most important rules arise from laws regulating the residence of foreigners, public financing of health services and the rules of coordination of social security systems in the European Union. It is advisable to know these rules before arriving, as the lack of a proper policy can hinder visa and residency procedures, as well as the daily use of medical care.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

The most important regulations in Poland<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Of primary importance is the Law of December 12, 2013 on foreigners. It is the one that indicates when a foreigner should have health insurance or confirmation of coverage of medical expenses in Poland. This is particularly important when applying for a national visa, a temporary residence permit and when documenting the purpose of stay, such as studies.<\/p>\n

The second important act is the Act of August 27, 2004 on publicly funded health care services. Among other things, it regulates the possibility of voluntary insurance in the National Health Fund. For some students, this may be an option when they arrive in Poland, especially if they plan a longer stay.<\/p>\n

For citizens of EU, EFTA and Swiss countries, EU regulations on coordination of social security systems are also relevant. These allow a student to use the European Health Insurance Card if he or she retains the right to benefits in his or her home country. NHF, EHIC or private policy<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Foreign students can benefit from several models of protection. An EU or EFTA citizen often arrives with an EHIC card. Such a card confirms the right to necessary treatment in the public system, but does not always cover all situations. It also does not replace private assistance, medical transportation to the country or benefits above the public standard.<\/p>\n

A non-EU student most often needs either a private policy or voluntary insurance with the National Health Service. Private health insurance is often chosen even before arrival, as it can be presented at the visa procedure. It should cover the cost of treatment for sudden illness, accident, hospitalization, medical transportation and the purchase of medicines.<\/p>\n

Voluntary insurance with the NFZ can be advantageous for a longer stay, but requires completion of formalities already in Poland. The student signs a contract with the NFZ and then pays the premiums. Residence regulations require a foreigner to demonstrate viable coverage for medical expenses. With a visa or residence card, an official can check not only the mere fact of having a policy, but also its scope, duration and territory of protection. The document should be legible, up-to-date and consistent with the student's passport data.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
